Kate Durdy
A childhood filled with embroidery, patchwork and knitting, led Kate to a
degree in textiles at Edinburgh College of Art.
Kate explains;
"It was in Edinburgh I developed my passion for haberdashery. But my
early work was published as stationary ranges, cards and gift wraps for
Paperchase, WHSmith and Paper D'Art. Since returning home to the Eden
Valley in Cumbria I then began to enjoy the freedom of creating
individual pieces.
Hand stitching is a major part of my work I find the process absorbing
and I love the lines it creates. All my work is on paper and along with the
stitching, involves collage, recycling, paint, buttons, sequins and sparkle.
My main inspiration is the routine of my everyday life, feeding the
chickens, walking the dog, doing the washing, etc and the beautiful area
in which I live."
