Stuart Simpson

Stuart graduated in 2006 from Grays School of Art, having received a BA
(hons) in three dimensional design. Since then he has been continuously
developing his creative practice and exhibiting his work. He currently
lives in Glasgow and recently registering as a self employed artist to
fully pursue his career as an artist.

  Below Stuart explains more about his work;
"Employing a multi disciplinary approach, incorporating printmaking,
pyrography, embossing, drawing and painting, I create totemic images,
which imply narrative and elevate their subjects by imbuing a sense of
  animism, mysticism and mythology.
On a superficial level my work can be fairly viewed as playful character
design and illustration, however I am motivated by a desire to reassert
the viewers relationship with the wonders of the natural world and a
time when we humans considered ourselves to be deeply connected to
it. I am interested in the way in which societies across the world and
throughout human existence have revealed their truest beliefs, hopes
and fears by taking reference from the natural world. The ubiquity of
anthropomorphism from ancient times to the modern day is indicative of
a basic human desire to express the good and the bad in ourselves by
using animalistic avatars and metaphors. I aim to add to this legacy of
  respect, understanding and reverence."
